Anambra May Dump APGA For PDP Because Of Obi
AWKA – Anambra State will be a battleground for three political parties, namely: All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APGA), which is the government in power in the state; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); which is the main opposition party; and All Progressives Congress (APC). However, there are other political parties as well which fielded candidates in the election. Better known among them are the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Although APGA is the party in power, it will fight a big battle to capture more votes in the presidential election than the PDP. This is because it is hard to see from among the masses of that political party a voter that is not committed to voting for Mr. Peter Obi in the Presidential election. The implication is that as much as the National Assembly elections will be competed keenly by the political parties, the Presidential election is for the APGA, PDP and partly APC. Many reasons are responsible for this.
Apart from the fact that Obi is in PDP and is the Vice Presidential candidate of that party, most people among the masses are determined to pay him back for his superlative performance in office. It is not just that Obi was the best Governor Anambra ever had, his administration touched every community in the state from Lilu community that never saw a tarred road until Obi came into office to Nzam that never knew what electric bulb looked like until Obi’s time in office.
Also, until now, the PDP had always approached each election divided and fractious. Even the governorship election that saw Governor Willie Obiano trounce his opponents witnessed similar divisions such that the self-acclaimed political godfather of Anambra politics, Chris Uba worked against the party claiming that he was not consulted before Obi picked Hon. Oseloka Henry Obaze as the governorship candidate. Now, Chris Uba is the Senatorial candidate of the party in Anambra South senatorial district.
Again, a big issue is being made out of Governor Obiano’s opposition to Ohaneze Ndigbo’s adoption of PDP. In this election, it is believed that APGA hierarchy is working for President Muhammadu Buhari, so as to, according to grapevine stories, fulfill his own bargain of the ‘China Agreement’ which is said to be instrumental to Obiano sweeping the poll even in his opponents’ perceived strongholds in the governorship election. Not a few people are angry with the governor’s position.
