NIA to eliminate fake insurance certificates with USSD code

THE Nigerian Insurers Association, NIA, has launched an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data, USSD, code to check proliferation of fake insurance certificates in the country. The USSD code, *565*11#, according to the NIA will assist to eliminate fake insurance certificates in the market.

H1’18: Banks’ losses to fraudsters rise by 1,446% to N12bn

CENTRAL Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reported a staggering 1,446 percent rise in banks’ losses to fraudsters amounting to N12 billion within the first six months of 2018.

THE moderation in cost of funds in the interbank money market is expected to persist this week in response to N376 billion inflow from maturing treasury bills (TBs).  Last week, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) mopped up N517.61 billion via secondary market (Open Market Operations, OMO) TBs auction.

PoS transactions rise by 57% to N1.6tr in Q3’18

Inactive bank accounts rise by 1.7m
VALUE of Point of Sale (PoS) transactions grew by 57 percent  quarter-on-quarter, QoQ, to N1.6 trillion in the third quarter of 2018, Q3’18, from N1.02 trillion in Q2’18, while    Nigerians opened 4.4 million bank accounts during same period. The new bank accounts opened during the quarter comprise 3.4 million savings accounts and 800,000 current accounts.
However, the number of inactive bank accounts rose by 1.7 million during the period.
