Avante Stewart is facing a murder charge and is the Grand Prairie Detention Center, police said Thursday. He also faces a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. Bond has not been set.
Stewart is accused of fatally shooting the man, who has not yet been identified, while the victim was in the driver's seat of a car about 11:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Carrier Parkway.
The teen had fled by the time police responded to reports of gunfire, police spokesman Mark Beseda said.
The victim was pronounced dead at a nearby trauma center, police said.
